In the new normal, a workspace at home is a necessity. Not just for moms and dads but for children as well.
Although the best option, only some will have the luxury of a naturally lit room.
However, set up your workstation or study table, wherever possible, in a spot that gets natural light.
Many of us will have to work with artificial lighting; most of us work with digital devices, and the light from computers, tablets, and phones may cause eye strain.
Eye strain symptoms include:-
- Blurry vision
- Red eyes
- Burning eyes
- Neck or shoulder pain
- Headaches
- Dry eyes
Therefore, plan your work area well and ensure good lighting. Here are some pointers:-
- Do not work in a room where the only light emanates from your device. It may cause you to suffer from eye strain and mood swings, and you will be inactive and less efficient in your work.
- Make your workplace bright, but not too bright. It is essential to have ambient lighting to reduce the glare from your device screen.
- Use lamps to get a glow on your table or ceiling light that sufficiently brightens your workspace.
- Ensuring that the temperature in your room is cool is also helpful.
- Practise the 20:20:20 rule. Take a break every 20 mins to look 20 feet (6m) away for 20 seconds.
